This Muvari aphorism and is often used in general application as well, such as when a merchant purchasing a flock of beshi might find a poor specimen amidst the fold he might well be told “never judge a companion wife by another” indicating that perhaps the rest of the flock is healthy and robust and that this is just a poor example. Or someone who is purchasing a lot of sword blades might examine the example proffered to him and find it a fine example of workmanship, but before he pays for the entire batch his companion might warn him “never judge a companion wife by another” indicating he should examine the other blades first.
