That’s About the Shape of the Tooth

That's About the Shape of the Tooth 600x604.jpg

The phrase ‘that’s about the shape of the tooth’ means ‘that’s correct’ or ‘that’s the most likely scenario’. It is derived from the story about a Muvari herder whose flocks of beshi were beset by a spotted hyena. She fought them off but was bit by a hyena with crooked teeth.┬áMuvari hunters tracked down the den of the spotted hyenas and destroyed them. Wondering if they had indeed destroyed the den of the same hyenas who had attacked the flocks, they matched the crooked teeth of one of the slain hyenas to the bite on the shepherd and confirmed they had destroyed the correct den.

Shield Mark 600x492.jpg

Legend has it that the Enipol Ranc once took exception to the markings on the shield of Aytole Suick, which were too similar to hers. Instead of taking this emulation as a compliment she construed it as an insult and the pair were said to have fought for three days, each inflicting a host of wounds upon the other until finally, they were so weary they made a truce. After this, they each added another mark to their shields as a symbol of their friendship, which had been forged out of enmity.
